"You have ruined the game" – Gary Neville hits out at Jon Moss after Sadio Mane's red card against Manchester City
Sadio Mane saw red for a high challenge on Ederson during Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City.
The Senegalese winger chased down a long ball as Ederson rushed off his line.
In an attempt to control the ball Mane raised his foot and made heavy contact with the City stopper.
Referee Jon Moss handed Mane a straight red card much to the fury of boss Jurgen Klopp.
And Neville was equally as surprised by the decision, suggesting it had a detrimental impact on the encounter.
“It’s a 50-50 really and Ederson just gets there first. Sometimes a stadium can tell you if it’s a bad challenge and there wasn’t great reaction from anybody,” Neville said on Sky Sports.
“I don’t think that is a red card, however the goalkeeper ends up.
“His eyes are on the ball, it’s ridiculous. He wins that challenge, the goal is there for him.
“It wasn’t one of those where you think the goalkeeper is the favourite. He does well and gets there, and his foot is high. The goalkeeper is an outfield player.
“Jon Moss, you have just ruined the game there.
“He didn’t need to give a red card. He could have given a yellow. I think he’s got it wrong.”
Ederson was forced off on a stretcher as a result of the challenge, with Claudio Bravo replacing him.
