Peter Kay to join lineup of celebrities at Manchester Arena for first show since terror attack
Peter Kay has joined the lineup for the Manchester Arena reopening – returning to the site of one of his early jobs.
He will introduce headline act Noel Gallagher at tonight’s We Are Manchester concert, the first at the venue since Salman Abedi’s bomb killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert in May.
Car Share star Peter, 44, from Bolton, worked at the arena as a steward in 1995.
After attending a city centre vigil, he said he was deeply affected by the tragedy: “The arena has always been a massive part of my life.
“I started working there when it first opened, then I started doing shows there.
“I know it so well, I know a lot of the staff, that’s what’s upset me the most about it.”
The gig will support the Manchester Memorial Fund.
Stockport boxer Ricky Hatton , 38, will also introduce an act on stage, while Russell Kane hosts the evening.
Ariana, 24, returned to Manchester in June for a fund-raising concert that included Liam Gallagher – who lashed out at brother Noel for not appearing at the time.
Liam will be performing in Madrid this evening.
