Diego Costa 'set to relocate to Madrid' in bid to secure Atletico move – Transfer news and gossip from Thursday's papers
Atletico Madrid hope to announce the signing of Diego Costa in the next two weeks, according to reports.
Costa, however, remains at home in Brazil despite Chelsea’s wishes for him to return to first-team training.
The Daily Mail report that Costa is planning to move to Madrid in the coming weeks in order to push through a move back to his former club.
It is claimed that Atletico and Chelsea remain locked in talks over a £50million move.
Atletico reportedly want to get Costa training with the team imminently to get himself match fit ahead of the next round of international fixtures in October.
Stories from Thursday’s Mirror
German sensation Timo Werner has put the Premier League big boys on alert. The striker is expected to be one of the major big-money targets for Europe’s elite clubs next summer, and Real Madrid are already plotting a move for the 21-year-old. But Werner admits England, with its greater number of trophy-challenging sides, would also be of interest if he were to leave Leipzig.
Arsene Wenger has denied that contract talks with Mesut Ozil have broken down and remains hopeful he will put pen to paper on a new Arsenal deal. The German is set to be a free agent next summer, and has been offered in excess of £275,000-per-week by the Gunners — but his representatives are asking for £350,000.
Harry Redknapp is under pressure at Birmingham — already. The former West Ham, Tottenham, Portsmouth and QPR and Spurs boss, who parachuted in late last season and saved Blues from relegation to League One, brought in 14 new players – including six loanees – this summer. But he has lost his last four games in the Championship and five on the bounce in all competitions and the club are now in the second tier’s bottom three.
